How do I register my child for classes at MVDT?

Your fist step is to contact the school director, Lori E. Cunningham at either (508) 360-5313 or Lori@MVDanceTheatre.com to set up an evaluation class for your child. Once you have established contact with the school your registration packet will be sent to your attention via US mail or E-mail. Before taking any classes, students and parents must first fill out and sign the MVDT Rules and Regulations/ Parent Student Contract and the Application/Tuition Contract.

What are the MVDT Rules and Regulations?

MVDT Rules and Regulations

These rules and regulations are to be adhered to by all MVDT students.  Failure to do so may result in expulsion from the program.

Attendance- Students are expected to attend all of their classes on a regular and consistent basis.  If you are to miss a class, you must phone in ahead of time to MVDT and leave a message as to the reason of absence.  Poor attendance will be noted and will be a factor in casting and future class placement.  The only acceptable reasons for absences are illness, death in the family/family emergency, and prior family or school related commitments that were brought to the Artistic Director’s attention ahead of time.  Please note:  MVDT Company members are expected to make up all absences.  Three unexcused absences are cause for dismissal from Company.

Cell Phones, Pagers and other Electronic Communication Devices- Students will need to turn off all electronic devices during class, rehearsal and performance times.  Any parent who needs to contact their child during those times can feel free to call MVDT at (508) 360-5313.  If no one answers at the immediate time of your call, please leave a message.

Class Placement- Class placement is determined by the MVDT Director.  Age, physical/technical ability, attitude, and level of maturity are determining factors.

Company- Company is by invite only.  Students must audition each year to be a part of company.  Dancers who participate in company will travel, perform, and compete as the MV Dance Theatre. They represent the ‘cream of the crop’ of our prestigious training program and will be expected to act accordingly.   As with any island sports team, these students will be expected to maintain a high level of physical fitness and professionalism while training and performing with MVDT.  They will be held to an elevated level of expectation where in they are to continually strive to perfect their dance technique and set a good example for the younger/aspiring members of the school.

Dress Code- A dress code will be followed by all students at MVDT.  Hair should always be tightly pinned in a bun.  Female dancers should ALWAYS have on a leotard and either black or pink tights.  Male dancers should wear a white shirt and black pants.  Any warm-ups worn during classes must be fitted and snug to the body.

Emergency Contact- The most important factor is your child’s safety. All students will need to be chaperoned and picked up inside the building. Also, In the case of an emergency, MVDT will attempt to call the contact person(s) listed below in the designated order. If no one can be reached and the teacher determines the situation to be an emergency, your child will be transported to the MV Hospital by emergency vehicle with a staff member.

Holidays/School Closings- During the course of the school year, the training facility will observe the following holidays: Columbus Day Weekend, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving Weekend, Christmas Vacation, New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Day, President's Day, February Vacation, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, April Vacation, and Memorial Day Weekend.  ***Snow day cancellations are announced on WMVY***

NO TOLERANCE POLICY- Any student caught using narcotic substances, smoking under the age of 18, and/or consuming alcohol under the age of 21, whether on school grounds or via a MYSPACE.com web page, etc., will be dismissed from the company and school effective immediately.  With written apology from the student to the Artistic Direct & his/her piers, return to regular classes will be allowed, but dismissal from company will be permanent.  Repeat offenders will be asked to leave the school.

Performances – Held throughout the year, performances are exciting for the students and beneficial to their development. MVDT Company members are required to participate in performances and subsequent rehearsals and must be able to choose them over other free activities with no exceptions. If you must miss a performance, please notify the Artistic Director in advance. Consecutive missed rehearsals and/or performances will result in a reevaluation of your status as a company member.

Registration Policy- Students register for the school year September through June.  All students are registered for 34 weeks.  A non-refundable application fee of $25.00 is due with the application form.  First tuition payment is due prior to first class.  Application and tuition payments may be made by mail or in person.  Payments can be paid by check or cash.  (Sorry we do not accept credit cards at this time.)

Student Etiquette- Every student is expected to behave in a disciplined, respectful & responsible manner while at the MVDT training facility and during any performance/appearance engagement or MVDT school/company related outing.  Students who continue to be disruptive in class will be asked to leave and their parents will be called.  If the disruption continues, again, the student will be asked to leave class, parents will be called and a parent/teacher meeting will be arranged to decide upon a fair consequence.  If there is a third offense, the student will be asked to leave the school.  Dismissal for bad behavior will result to payment of OPEN ENROLLMENT RATES for classes that the student participated.

Tardiness- Students who show up more than 10 minutes late will not be permitted to participate in class.  This is for their own physical safety as well as to discourage any class interruptions.  Students who arrive late will be allowed to observe class, but, will need to make up the class at another time.

Theatre Etiquette- Please see attached Guideline.

Ticket Sales- Every student invited to participate in a MVDT Company Performance will be asked to sell 10 tickets to the show.  If you do not sell the tickets, you will be held responsible to purchasing them yourself.  The goal here is to spread the word and help build an audience base for the company.   All ticket proceeds go to the MV Dance Theatre Association, the non-profit group that pays for the theatre rentals, costumes, guest artists and other related performing expenses throughout the year.

Tuition payments– Tuition is payable in one of four options as outlined on the Application/Tuition Contract.  The Application/Tuition Contract is required for all students of MVDT. There is a $25.00 charge for any check returned to us by the bank. Delinquent accounts (more than one month) will result in denial of student’s admission in to class.  Families with payment plans will be charged $25.00 after the 15th of the month for late fees. Tuition is non-refundable. However, a credit can be given for long term absences due to medical reasons.

Please note that Multiple and company class discounts are only available to those students who are committed for the full year term.  Any student registered for the full year term, thus taking advantage of tuition discounts, who is asked to leave the school, drops out of classes or does not honor the full year MVDT Performance Company dance commitment will be billed for all classes attended at the OPEN ENROLLMENT class rate.

Volunteers- Parent participation is vital to the success of MVDT.  Your help is always needed for sewing, set building, quick changes, driving, chaperoning, and supporting the fund raising efforts of the MVDT Association.  I do my best to keep the cost of training your children VERY low, and I do not feel comfortable asking any of you to reach in to your own pockets to make our productions happen.  HOWEVER, in order for our program to thrive, I need for you to help us spread the word and get involved.  All parents of students who are involved with MVDT Company Productions will be required to assist in at least one production during the year.  Sign up sheets for various committees etc. will be made available to you.  For any parent who does not wish to get involved, the other option is to make a $100 donation to the MVDT Association so that we can hire someone to assist in your stead.  Your participation is greatly appreciated.

Withdrawal-The Director must be notified if a student is to withdraw from MVDT. Withdrawal takes effect for a medical reason with a doctor’s notification. Students are liable for tuition until formal notification has been given. Formal notification shall be in writing. If a student does not register for the full dance year, single rate prices for classes will apply.
